The nucleophilic addition of enolizable carbonyl compounds to imines and related derivatives such as iminium salts, nitrones, oximes, and hydrazones provides direct access to β-amino carbonyl derivatives. This reactivity has been employed in efficient approaches to the synthesis of enantiomerically pure compounds.
