Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of methods and strategies that are used in contemporary clinical practice when assessing stuttering in school-aged children. The chapter is designed to guide clinicians through an assessment process that takes into account the school-aged child’s functioning, impairment, activity limitations, and participation restrictions, as well as personal and environmental factors that can influence communication performance. Application of assessment information to stuttering diagnosis, severity determination, and, if appropriate, treatment planning are discussed as well.
