Für die Behandlung chronischer Schmerzpatienten gilt die Kombination aus Patientenedukation und Bewegungstherapie als gängiger Standard. Hierfür instruiert der Therapeut adäquate Übungen, kontrolliert deren korrekte Ausführung und richtet so zwangläufig das Augenmerk des Patienten permanent auf dessen Schmerzen und Funktionsstörungen. Nicht immer ist dieser autoritäre und körperorientierte Therapieansatz effektiv. Als innovative Alternative dient eine Behandlungsstrategie, die ihren Fokus vor allem auf das zielorientierte Bewältigen spannender Übungen richtet und dem Patienten Mitspracherechte bei der Gestaltung der Behandlung einräumt. Dadurch werden aus chronischen Schmerzpatienten funktionierende Menschen.
