Significance

Enantioselective allylation of ketones represents an area of intense research because their additions are more challenging than the analogous reactions of aldehydes. Based on their earlier work in this field with allylation of ketones (K. M. Waltz, J. Gavenonis, P. J. Walsh Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2002, 41, 3697-3699), the authors developed a similar catalyst system for the first catalytic asymmetric methallylation of ketones.
