Significance

Highly substituted pyrroles are important structural units of many natural products, pharmaceutically active substances, and useful intermediates for materials. Herein a conceptually new synthetic route to tetra- and penta-substituted pyrroles, using a silver-catalyzed propargyl-Claisen rearrangement followed by condensation with amines and a gold-catalyzed 5-exo-dig-cyclization to give pyrrole derivatives in modest to excellent yields is reported.
