C-H Activation Approach to Condensed N-Heterocycles

Significance

A new Pd-catalyzed cyclization to condensed N-heterocycles, proceeding via C-H activation at sp³ or sp² carbons as the key step, is reported. Using this reaction, several classes of pyrroloindoles and pyrroloisoquinolines are easily accessible in good yield by simple variation of reaction conditions (base, time, temperature). The starting materials are easily prepared from the corresponding anilines by classical condensations.
