Significance

Using a Pd(0)/JosiPhos catalyst system, a meso bis-homoallylic ether undergoes a desymmetrizing asymmetric Heck reaction in moderate to good yield and enantioselectivity, depending on the nature of halide/pseudohalide used. When typical ligands for asymmetric Heck reactions (i.e. BINAP, chiral oxazolines, etc.) were used, both product yield and enantioselectivity were poor.
