Significance

An enantio- and endo-diastereoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of aromatic nitrones to (E)-crotonaldehyde and acrolein catalyzed by l-phenylalanine-based catalyst 1 is reported. Different substitutions patterns on the aromatic ring of the nitrone as well as variation in the N-substituents were well tolerated.
