Significance
The authors have developed a new three-step aldol-epoxidation-intramolecular lactonization strategy for the synthesis of highly functionalized trisubstituted γ-butyrolactones with excellent levels of diastereocontrol. Moreover, they demonstrated that this methodology could be transferred to solid support using a polymer-supported Evans oxazolidin-2-one for synthesis.
