Significance

The authors have reported the first example of a ”configurational switch" for iridium-catalyzed allylic cyclization, which allows both possible diastereoisomers with very high diastereoselectivity. They applied this method to an asymmetric synthesis of alkaloid (+)-241 D and to the first asymmetric synthesis of its C6-epimer.
