Significance

Dynamic polymers based on the reversible Diels-Alder reaction between monomers M1 or M2 (dienophiles) and M3 (diene) were synthesized and isolated. The mechanical properties of the resulting dynamers could be tailored by changing the feed ratios of the monomers and adding a cross-linker containing four fulvene moieties. The dynamer formed between M2 and M3 was found to be self-healing.
