Summary

After a brief review of the development of arthroscopy and its problems, a photoarthroscope is presented which was developed in cooperation with the R. Wolf firm in Knittlingen.

With the aid of arthroscopy it was possible to demonstrate degenerative alterations and internal damage within the knee joint, for which clinical and radiologic findings could not support an unequivocal diagnosis. Some of these findings were documented in color photographs. A broader clinical utilization of photoarthroscopy is to be expected.
