Summary

We had 113 cases of early gastric cancer since 1958, representing 24% of all operated gastric cancer cases since then. Recent instrumental and technical improvement resulted in correct diagnosis of early gastric cancer in 88% via biopsy. Moreover, false positive cases have been decreasing and endoscopical accuracy of diagnosis has been improving. Comparing indirect ways of diagnosis by radiology and endoscopy, the biopsy is one of the most direct ways of diagnosing carcinoma. Presenting two of our cases, we emphasized topographic localization of carcinoma diagnosing early gastric cancer by biopsy and sufficient possibility to diagnose minimal lesions (less than one cm. in size) by biopsy.
