Abstract
A sex-dependent protein from male rat liver was isolated. Male rats receiving reserpine for 15-20 weeks did not possess this protein in the liver. The growth of testes and seminal vesicles in experimental animals was also inhibited. Similar observations were made on male rats treated with catapresan, a hypotensive drug.
The reserpine inhibition of sex-dependent protein biosynthesis and testicular weights could be reversed by a simultaneous treatment with mesterolone, an androgen without any antigonadotropic activity.
