Abstract

The levels of glucose-6-phosphate and L-glycerol 3-phosphate have been measured in adipose tissue of adult diabetics and non-diabetic obese patients. Despite greatly different blood glucose concentrations, the intermediates were maintained at similar levels in adipose tissue of both groups of patients. The levels of both intermediates fluctuated during a glucose tolerance test. This was most marked with glucose-6-phosphate which in diabetics failed to return to initial values after two hours (p < 0.01).
